Looks like my blogging skills are waning for I still have no idea how to edit my 'About me' page so I shall share some thoughts about that here. Welcome to my blog it is not my first and definitely not the last. Blogger has always been somewhat intimidating to me in contrast to Wix but as we all know Wix has its fair share of pros and cons and looks like the cons have finally amassed sufficiently to push me to Blogger out of (minimal) rage and mostly, curiosity.
I do have a fair share of experience with Wix, it's not its fault that it needs to charge for certain important features such as a personal domain and even for greater SEO reliability, it is a business after all and so is Blogger. And Wix has some of the most beautiful layouts that I've ever used (not that I've used many other platforms out there like Square space to judge, but the graphics of its themes are definitely beautiful). As someone who began with Wix and its manipulable drag-bars that even an amateur could master in days, Blogger is a whole new world with its HTML code-window and the suggestion of Matrix-core-reader ability requirements. Of course, that is a exaggeration - from the mind of the flummoxed in the face of the language behind what we see in much of our digital world.
So, why Blogger? I started this blog because it's 2020 and why not right? Conquer your doubts and you will never fear again. However upon reflection I realised it's way more complicated than that.
First off, I do have a Wix website, it's here if you'd like to see it. However this website of mine has become more of an intimate space for drawings, paintings and self-projects to be documented -- very much a visual space rather than a wordy one. Squeezing in words of thoughts would make it very cluttered and rather weird. In need of a space for more words and more thoughts I've resorted to this amateur Blogger website that I thank the history of computing and the Internet for. Without a history nothing much would ever have surfaced to the face of our Earth.
This now brings to my next point - why do I blog? why do blog? What has the internet and the social media become to our lives? Everything has become so intimate to our physical selves, in one way or another. Has it ever occurred to you why you keep a diary or take notes about your ideas? Perhaps the answer has always existed without having to be said. We are humans, descendants of the Neanderthal who discovered the importance of recording, and self-expression nearly 50,000 years ago. Perhaps self-expression followed suit after the discovery of cave painting but we will never know.
Writing, language, expression - without it, we are immaterial. The gift of writing and language is something we have inherited from our ancestors and something to continues today, interwoven into even the digital, which in itself also began as etched designs of early innovators. Everything has a material substrate, even our computers. The material substrate for our thoughts and our gift of writing, is in fact our tiny cells without which the joy of typing would probably not be experienced.
What if we lived in a dystopian world without freedom of writing in George Orwell's 1984?
And this is why I started this blog.
Feel free to recommend any design changes to my layout though - and share any thoughts you have about blogging, and what writing means to you! ;)
